LET OUR LIGHT SHINE
Recognition for our Postcard Brigade came recently.  They have provided postcards for Michael Schroeder who is running for State Senate in a special election in PA January 14th.

The Brigade received two emails including one from the campaign manager.

"You’re all heroes in my eyes! I saw the boxes of postcards and I am so impressed by the widespread commitment to winning this race. I don’t need to preach to the choir here, but this election has implications beyond the 48th district and even beyond Pennsylvania.
We don’t know how many votes it will take to win this weird race, but we do know that you’ve helped us get closer to that number."

And a second email from the Schroeder Team:  " Margaret and Ruth, Thank you and your wonderful Indivisible team in Howard county for having the post card parties and completing 500 postcards for Mike Schroeder. I look forward to continuing to work with you this year. Our team can learn a lot from you so we will stay in touch! "
This is the first full week in Annapolis.
Several organizations have set up lobby days.
Join us for the Maryland Chapter's biggest Advocacy Day ever! The day begins with a brief welcome and training, followed by a group photo. Then, we’ll have a rally and press conference with our bill sponsors, followed by meetings with legislators in small groups. We will ask for their support for common sense efforts to strengthen Maryland gun laws. No experience necessary! Come for all or part of the day. PLEASE RSVP NOW if you plan to attend, as information about the day, carpools and other helpful details will be sent by email only to those who RSVP.   Thursday, January 30, 2020 at 9 AM – 4 PM
The Environmental Action Team along with members of the Sierra Club met with legislators  in Annapolis on opening day.  To push for progress on climate change.

Why should the Electoral College be abolished?

Do you know why the Electoral College was established? Do you understand its impact on our democratic process today? Are you familiar with the arguments in favor of abolishing the Electoral College and how that can be accomplished?

If you would like the answers to these questions, please come to the upcoming Defend Democracy Team meeting, scheduled for Saturday, January 18, at 2:30 pm at the East Columbia Library at 6600 Cradlerock Way in Columbia. The Defend Democracy team has invited Lucie Geinzer, a Board Member of the Howard County League of Women Voters, to give a talk on this important topic as well as be available to answer questions.

We hope to see you then.  Space is limited, so please RSVP  to Christine Lemyze, Defend Democracy Team Facilitator, at clemyze@hotmail.com
